Readers Write: Rosen listens to bus noise complaints

I am writing this letter in support of the re-election of Mayor Ted Rosen.

I live in a co-op in Great Neck Plaza near the train station.  Residents of my co-op have had constant problems regarding various issues, including noise, traffic and parking.

Mayor Rosen, whom I have known for over a decade, has met and spoken with residents of my co-op and has listened to their concerns.  He has sought to resolve the noise issues that directly affect residents of my co-op by working with the management of NYCE Buses to reduce noise – which is constantly emanating from the buses, even during Village quiet hours, when the bus drivers break our local laws by idling right outside my window, often as early as 4:45 a.m. They also have loudspeakers outside the buses to declare that the bus is going to move or turn – and those are frequently very loud, all day long.

Mayor Rosen has also sought to reduce traffic congestion in the area resulting from customers double parking in front of nearby stores.  He has assured me he is working on plans to provide additional parking spaces for residents in the immediate vicinity of my co-op.

I have found Mayor Rosen to be committed to finding solutions to make Great Neck Plaza a better place to live for all of the residents of our Village, unlike some other local politicians who seem to be more concerned about local businesses than residents. And every time I leave a message with one of my concerns, Mayor Rosen always contacts me back within about three days – after he has had time to look into the issue, possible solutions, and any difficulties we need to overcome before my concerns can be resolved.

In other words, he doesn’t just get back to me the same day with empty promises. He does his homework first, and calls me when options are ready to be discussed. And he has never once rushed me off the phone. He answers me patiently and with facts, not platitudes or promises. And not with excuses, either.

I’m not saying he has been able to fix everything I want fixed, but that is life. Change happens, and in the past 25 years I have seen change for both the better and unfortunately sometimes for the worse, right outside my home. Mayor Rosen was responsive to my concerns when he was deputy mayor and continues to respond to me today.

I hope any local residents who care about their quality of life will vote to re-elect Ted Rosen as mayor and his running mates, Deputy Mayor Pamela Marksheid and Trustee Michael DeLuccia as trustees.
