Readers Write: Deborah Brooks: Well-deserving of re-election to Port Washington’s Board of Education

With her child-centered leadership, insightful questions, and conscientiousness, I am thrilled to support Deborah Brooks in her re-election to the Port Washington Board of Education.

As a nine-year resident of Port Washington, I first met Ms. Brooks three years ago after a district curriculum presentation that we both attended. Ms. Brooks made it a point to speak with me further about some of the concerns I had raised in the public forum.

From that moment on, she has always impressed me as a truly attentive and empathic listener who is eager to hear from and respond to community members and is also someone who welcomes different perspectives.

As I continue to observe her tenure on the board, my appreciation for Ms. Brooks has only deepened as I have witnessed her dedication, fiscal responsibility, and sincere concern for the welfare of all of the district’s students and families.

Over the past three years, I have observed that Ms. Brooks does a tremendous service to the public by asking numerous questions in meetings to seek a deeper understanding of programs, expenditures, and issues.

Her questions are always asked with thoughtfulness and with respect for our administrators, but she does not hesitate to delve deeper during discussions in order to feel satisfied about her own decision-making and positions.

By hearing answers to her questions, the public is able to gain a much greater understanding of the issues our district faces as well. I truly appreciate the role Ms. Brooks has played in deepening my own knowledge of the challenges that our district works diligently to solve.

As a high school guidance counselor and a parent of an elementary school student, I am deeply passionate about public education and consider it of the utmost importance that Port Washington’s students not only receive a stellar education, but also, one that is child-centered.

I am certain that Ms. Brooks seeks for every child to not only have the best educational opportunities but also, that they are valued and supported as individuals.

Ms. Brooks has worked tirelessly for this goal to be achieved and I believe that her diligence has earned her the opportunity to serve the public for another three years. I look forward to casting my vote to re-elect Ms. Brooks and urge the Port Washington community to vote for her as well!
