New York should move local elections

Town of Hempstead Sanitation District 1 held its election on July 11. Most people would say, “Why July 11th?”

However, what was more outrageous was the fact that the hours of voting were 6 PM to 10 PM!

Special districts, Villages, and other municipalities should be required to move their elections to the November general election.

Many voters, particularly in my Village, are unaware of these different levels of Government. What’s worse is most Villages like mine hide behind secret names such as “United Community Party” or “Citizens Party” when in reality, they’re all one political affiliation.

By moving elections to November, we would solve the lack of turnout that we see in these local elections.

This November, vote for candidates in the State Assembly and State Senate who will support moving local elections to November.
