Ruby Namdar, winner of the Sapir Prize, Israel’s highest literary award, will speak about his mesmerizing new novel, “The Ruined House,” at Temple Beth Israel on Monday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Set on the upper west side of Manhattan in the early 2000’s, “The Ruined House” follows Andrew Cohen, a successful and well-known professor at NYU, over the course of a year as his world unravels and he is forced to question all his beliefs.
Namdar was born, raised and educated in Jerusalem to a family of Iranian-Jewish heritage. His first book, “Haviv,” won the Ministry of Culture Award for Best First Publication. He is a scholar of biblical and Talmudic studies, and is presently teaching Jewish literature in Manhattan.
