State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso recently met with Betty Leong and Ken Larson, representatives from a local Town of North Hempstead AARP chapter.

They came to discuss several bills pending in the NYS Assembly and State Senate that affect our senior citizens. One of the bills, A6772, which D’Urso co-sponsored is known as the ‘Complete Streets Design Law,’ will change the highway law to enable safe access to public roads for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities.

“It is important to make all the streets safer for everyone. Older and less-able bodied New Yorkers will be more likely to remain living in their homes and communities when they have safer public roads and sidewalks,” said D’Urso.

The purpose of this bill is to have complete street design features in resurfacing, maintenance and pavement projects which enable safe access to public roads for everyone.
