Commemorative poem dedicated to the memory and victims of 9/11

9/11

There’s unfathomable hurt because
you can’t imagine
why anyone would destroy life like that—
the anger.

Years pull away
but I see the planes from my window
fly into the buildings on a clear day
because of the hurt—so many people,
and knowing my father worked in them.

I step through their doors
into busy lobbies beyond all description
and come to the milestones of living and
the tangibles between them:
They are beauty. All beauty. Beauty.
