Adelphi University’s Department of Theatre and Performing Arts Center will open a grand production of the play The Rimers of Eldritch at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30. Directed by Nicholas Petron, theatre professor and chair, the play will feature Adelphi theatre students.

Written by Lanford Wilson, The Rimers of Eldritch is about the murder of a man in Eldritch, a mysterious town in Missouri. The mystery is, who he is, who murdered him and what were the circumstances? And to solve it, Wilson looks at the outsides and insides of his tiny, Middle Western town. In the end his portrait of Eldritch is full length, and the truth of its revelations will be pondered long after the stage lights have dimmed and the play has ended. The New York Times wrote about the play, “there is no mistaking the author’s sensitivity and his gift for language.”

Adelphi will bring the production to life through seven performances in the Olmsted Theater from Tuesday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 4. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30, 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 (a discussion of the show follows), 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 2, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, and 2 p.m. on Nov. 4. The 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, Nov. 3, will be open-captioned for deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons.
