A new proposed development at 114 Main St. in Port Washington would see 52 apartment units built on the site of a former movie theater, Councilmember Mariann Dalimonte announced Friday.

The property owners are looking for feedback on their proposals from community organizations. The proposal calls for 41 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom units, a child care center on the main level, parking along Mackey Avenue and street-level covered parking beneath the building, which will stand 48 feet tall.

“I am also recommending that the property owner organize a community meeting(s) to share information, receive feedback, respond to questions and address concerns,” Dalimonte said in her newsletter.

Dalimonte said the area is currently zoned as a Business B District. She explained that in order to proceed, the proposed development would need Town Board approval to change the zoning designation to Multiple Residence District and be added to the Port Washington Business Overlay District.

The Multiple Residence District limits the number of apartment units per acre to 24. This 0.86-acre property would require variances from the Board of Zoning Appeals in order to achieve its desired 52 apartment units.
