The Port Washington Public Library budget for 2023-2024 fiscal year passed by a vote of 450 to 36 on Tuesday.
Trustees Michael Krevor and Sima Vasa were re-elected for another term in the same vote. Both ran unopposed.
The budget includes a 2% tax levy increase, according to a release from Patricia Bridges, president of the board of trustees. This is the first increase since 2019.
Spending increased across a variety of categories, including salaries, terminal leave and benefits, library materials and operations, and building operations.
Spending decreased in the category of equipment, repairs and transfers. The amount of aid from various grants and funds decreased marginally.
The message from Bridges read, “we have developed this budget with a recognition of the needs of our community, the requirements to keep our facility in shape, and a regard to the current fiscal environment.”
It also highlighted some of the achievements and successes that the library hopes to continue into the new fiscal year.
These include continued lifelong enrichment classes, facility maintenance and improvements, various musical events, special cultural celebrations and more.
