Readers Write: ‘We’ve landed!’ rang out at May’s in Jamaica

A question being asked, “Where were you when the Apollo 11 landed on the moon?” The landing 50 years ago on the moon was a monumental achievement for the United States and all of mankind.

All this talk about the moon landing caused me to reflect on where I was on that date in time July 20,1969. Well, I was working as a buyer/ department manager in the giftware department at May’s Department store in Jamaica and was living in Queens Village at the time.

As I was working in the giftware department on the third floor when I heard someone yell, “We’ve landed!” This was in the nearby major appliance department where many TVs were on. I ran over there to watch this most important moment. I, like many others there, felt such pride. I was 20 years old at the time. My next moment of pride that year was when my son Tommy was born a few months latter. What a year 1969 was! I’m 70 years old now and remember the way we were on that day and time.
