Nine years ago I moved to Great Neck, attracted to the small village and quiet streets where I could raise my children.
For the last nine years I have witnessed a decline in the Village of Great Neck. More traffic, and oversized homes that have taken away the character of my neighborhood. I know the worse is yet to come.
As the Board of Trustees approves building after building, house after house that barely fits in its lot, I wonder what had led to this decline. I go to board meetings, I watch them being dismissive of the residents’ concerns and I see one constant among the changes. Bart Sobel.
Mr. Sobel has been on the board since I moved here. As the years go by and he becomes more and more entrenched in the Village he becomes more and more arrogant and condescending. He laughs when people ask questions or bring up issues that concern them. He claims success for as if they were solely his doing. He rolls his eyes at people when they try to speak with him.
Sometimes when politicians are in office for too long, they think they can do no wrong.
A lot of wrong has been done and it’s time to change to try and get back to where we were when the Village of Great Neck was a great place to live. It’s time for Bart Sobel to leave the Board of Trustees.
Vote for Sam Yellis on June 21.
