Readers Write: I endorse Suozzi for the 3rd Congressional District

According to the Republican candidate in the third district special election, having been in the Israeli army makes her uniquely qualified to be in Congress.

But as almost every Israeli does army service, it is hardly unique, (bragging about it is like boasting you have gone to high school), and more to the point, it does not have anything to do with the office she is running for.

Unless of course, this self-described emissary of her native country wants to import national healthcare, legal abortion, strict gun control and free childcare, long-standing Israeli policies, to this country, which considering the party she is representing, is highly unlikely.

Not only does the GOP pick lack a record and almost any experience, but she also refuses to take a public stand on anything.

Tom Suozzi, on the other hand, throughout years of holding legislative and executive office, has a proven record of defending women’s reproductive rights, advocating sensible control of firearms, protecting the environment, fighting crime, and backing legislation that benefits senior citizens, union members and area taxpayers.

He has not hesitated to reach across the aisle to achieve solutions and, if we must go there, despite never having been in the IDF, has always strongly supported Israel.

But he has never forgotten that his number one job is to work for the best interests of the people he represents right here in America, like he has done effectively, in various capacities, during decades of public service.

  1. Well said, Ms. Hall. Not only does Mazi Pilip lack any experience for the job for which she is seeking, but it appears clear that the limited experience she does have in no way indicates, or provides any confidence to her constituents, that she will be able to serve as an effective Representative for the important issues and concerns of the residents of CD 3. Thus far, Ms. Pilip has apparently been earnings a reputation in the Nassau County Legislature for not voicing her opinion in legislature meetings. (The Island 360)
“A review of two years’ worth of transcripts shows Pilip speaks much less frequently than her colleagues. At many meetings, the only words she said into her microphone were ‘here’ during roll call attendance and ‘aye’ during vote tallies.” [Newsday] While it’s commendable that she has expressed support for a woman’s access to abortion, and opposition to her Party’s call for a National abortion ban, has her silent performance in the Nassau County Legislature given ANY voter confidence that she is capable or willing to stand firm in her convictions against the pressure that will most certainly be exerted on her by Ms. Pilip’s extremist Republican colleagues ?
Other areas of her personal record are also very troubling.
“ Failing to vote in multiple elections, including for the same seat she is now trying to represent. “The Republican candidate vying for ex-Rep.George Santos’ vacated New York seat failed to vote for years in key elections — including for the congressional office she’s running for, voting records reveal.” [New York Post]
Ducking debates by only agreeing to one invitation – that excludes Queens voters – only 5 days before the special election and 5 days after early voting begins. Also troubling is the fact that Ms. Pilip remains a registered Democrat despite maintaining political views largely aligned with extremist Conservative Republicans. In response to the question posed to Mazi Melesa Pilip about political party registration on the Fox5 NY Good Day New York show, “do you ever see yourself registering as a Republican ?” she responded, “I don’t have a problem doing so.” Well NEWSFLASH ! It’s an easy process ! Why hasn’t she done so ? Did it just slip her mind ? Regarding Trump, Pilip said: “once we know who is the Republican nominee, we’re going to support that person.”She said she’d endorse whoever wins the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. So will Mazi Pilip confirm that she is willing to support a man who has been quoted as saying that he is in favor of discarding the Constitution of the United States ?
