Dr. Anthony Fauci saved thousands of lives during the Covid pandemic, contrary to what George Marlin implies in his June 28 Opinion piece, “Dr. Fauci’s pseudoscience in Covid response.”
Dr. Fauci encouraged people to wear masks and to stay six feet apart from other people. He then encouraged everyone to get vaccinated with the Covid vaccine. Both Moderna and Pfizer tested their vaccines and found them very safe and very effective. There were very few minor side effects. There has never been a death attributed to the Covid vaccine.
George Marlin in his Opinion piece condemns Dr. Fauci for not agreeing that the Covid virus came from a lab in Wuhan, China. There is no proof that the virus came from a lab or from a bat, or from the fish market, in China. What difference does it make where the virus came from?
We all agreed it started in China. President Trump smartly stopped all incoming flights from China. Democrats mistakenly called Trump xenophobic, but in retrospect Trump did the right thing by slowing the spread of the virus from China to the U.S.
The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, did not agree with Dr. Fauci about encouraging people to wear masks nor about getting vaccinated. DeSantis did not encourage people of Florida to wear masks or to get vaccinated. So Florida had the highest death rate from Covid in the country!
DeSantis was so vehement in his opposition to vaccines that he went to court to try to prevent cruise lines from requiring passengers to be vaccinated, in order to prevent the spread of Covid on their ships. This court literally laughed at DeSantis’ attorney and denied his request. DeSantis went to the Appellate court where he was again denied.
Dr. Fauci saved many thousands of lives by his smart, logical recommendations during the Covid crisis. Time magazine acknowledged Fauci and other frontline health workers as Guardians of the Year, 2020. He should have been named Man of theYear.

As Mr. Marlin wrote:
“Members of the medical profession who dared to disagree with a Fauci diagnosis or interpretation of data were publicly shamed as cranks spreading disinformation. They were excommunicated from the fellowship of scientists because they were incorrigible sinners.”
They were worse than sinners. They were murderers. Including the President of the United States who stopped short of recommending Windex to cure it.
Mr. Marlin’s piece conflated the lab leak theory with Dr. Fauci’s efforts to contain the spread of the disease. That’s pretty dishonest, but I would remind Mr. Marlin that error non habet ius.

Just as a post script, COVID came here by way of Europe, not China. People have short memories but Italy suffered tremendously from COVID before we experienced our own suffering.
Trump’s race baiting emptied out every Chinatown in the country, essentially turning fellow Americans into lepers. And by the time TFG banned the flights from, not only was it too late, it wasn’t really a ban. Plenty of Americans, including businessmen, had no trouble getting a flight back home from the Mainland.
Trump was told of the horrors Wuhan residents suffered back in October. He blew it off.
