Re: Article titled “Owner seeks to demolish Baxter House,” in the Port Washington Times issue of Jan. 13, 2017
The clause at the end of the last paragraph of the referenced article, “The board suggested residents submit letters and contact the landmarks committee because the issue is no longer in its control.” is incorrect and misleading.
According to official documentation of the Village of Baxter Estates (Baxter Estates Newsletter, December 2006 and “General Information” posted at its official URL <https://www .baxterestates.org/general info.html#lan>):
1. The “Landmark Preservation Commission” (not “Committee”) is fully a creature of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Baxter Estates;
2. The five members of said Commission are appointed by the Mayor of the Village of Baxter Estates;
Hence, the Village of Baxter Estates is ultimately in control of said Commission and of said “issue” and it would be well advised to accept the owner’s recent proposal and resolve the deplorable situation, in which it has gotten itself embroiled.
