Readers Write: NY gun law opponents are not gun nuts

I vehemently object to and am personally offended by the term “gun nuts” used in a recent editorial in the Williston Times, in an article entitled, “Gun Nuts Target State Sen. Martins.”

The term was used to negatively characterize legal firearms owners who use their right to freedom of speech to express their opposition to a flawed law.

Freedom of the press allows the Williston Times to express their opinion.

However, I think the editor of the newspaper should have used just a bit more common sense and discretion.

I think the editor’s view gratuitously insults a more significant part of the population than you realize, many of whom might even be among your subscribers.

For the record, this is a personal expression of opinion and unrelated to any organization of which I may be a member. I am not a member of the NRA (and never will be) and I particularly admire and respect Mr. Martins.

I will not cancel my subscription, however I will certainly have much less personal respect for the management of your newspaper.
