Roslyn High School’s Marching Bulldogs took first in the Small School Division 2 category at the 2022 New York State Field Band Conference Championship Sunday.

The team competed against nearly 60 schools at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. The show concluded an eight-week season in which the bands competed in 34 regional competitions across the state.

Roslyn’s show, Immortalis, received an 89.075 rating. Band Director Frank Mauriello said this was their highest score ever.

“I’m so proud of our talented students,” he said. “They worked very hard this season to elevate their performance and it is a joy to see them succeed. Kudos to our students and everyone involved in the show.”

Bands are classified into six categories based on school size and previous competitive experience. Each band performed a 10-minute musical and visual show for a panel of 10 judges.

This victory comes after their win at the USBands New York Regional Championships last week. The Marching Bulldogs include over 170 Roslyn students, 12 staff members and 50 pit crew parents.

Superintendent Allison Brown congratulated the team for their hard work.

“This win is so well deserved,” she said. “I want to thank the Roslyn Board of Education, district administration, band fans and the entire Roslyn community for their loyal support each season.”

Founded in 1972, the New York State Field Band Conference oversees and plans field band competitions for schools and statewide field band events.
