Police are searching for a man in connection with a burglary at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home on Feb. 1.

The suspect, described as a 50-year-old black or Hispanic man, entered an employees-only area at the funeral home at 506 Lakeville Road at 11:04 a.m. that day, police said Feb. 9.

The man was observed leaving through a side door carrying a briefcase, police said.

When a funeral home employee who owned the briefcase confronted him, police said, the man said he was a drug addict and returned the briefcase.

He then walked across the street and drove northbound on North Ninth Place in an older black Chrysler minivan.

Police said the suspect is 5-foot-10, weighs about 230 pounds and was wearing a ski cap, sunglasses, jacket and black workout pants.
