Northwinds band to play Glen Head concert

The Northwinds Symphonic Band, under the musical and artistic direction of Helen Bauer, will present Concert Band Classics and Virtuoso Artistry at the North Shore High School Theater in Glen Head on Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m.

The concert will include works by renowned composers Giacomo Puccini, Edward Elgar, Robert Sheldon, Philip Sparke, Cécile Chaminade, and an exhilarating new arrangement of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” featuring members of the band in a traditional Dixieland ensemble.

Also demonstrating virtuosic artistry will be Alana De Stefano, soloist in the poignant and classic Concertino for Flute, and Jacqueline Schwartz, featured in Tosca Fantasy on alto saxophone.

Northwinds will perform selections from the current Broadway revival of “Fiddler on the Roof” and demonstrate the band’s strong technique and artistry with “Maker’s Mark,” written by Ryan Nowlin, staff arranger for “the President’s Own” United States Marine Band.

Admission to the concert is free. The North Shore High School Theater is wheelchair accessible.   For additional information call 516.759.9694.
