The NHPLL Girls Softball 11/12 Year Old team opened with a win in the New York State Tournament, defeating Fredonia LL12-1.
Maggie Donnelly hit a home run and had five RBIs on the night. Kayla Fitzpatrick had three hits including a lead off triple to open the big six-run first for NHPLL.
Jenny Hickey was lights out in picking up the win, striking out five in two innings while allowing just one single. Kayla Fitzpatrick pitched two terrific innings in relief, striking out five and giving up just one hit as well.
Melissa Ward struck out three and also allowed just one hit in two innings in relief.
New Hyde Park’s offense was strong again. Gabby Morales hit two bullets including a triple in the big first inning. Hickey had two hits and scored twice. Ann Grimshaw smoked a double and scored twice. Emma Nidermaier had a huge bases-loaded single in the big first inning to pick up two RBIs. Nicole Kuzler had a single and walk in her only two at bats.
Defensively NHP played well. Nidermaier made a spectacular sliding catch in center to take a hit away from Fredonia. Sophia Jacoby had two put outs and an assist on the night.
NHPLL moves on to round two in the double elimination tournament with a game on July 11 against a tough Oneida LL team.
