The $39.2 million New Hyde Park-Garden City Park school budget was approved with 469 votes on Tuesday night.

The budget received 281 no votes.

The budget for the Sewanhaka Central High School District, which the elementary district feeds into, was voted in with 2,548 votes.

Sewanhaka’s $197.8 million budget received 1,071 no votes.

The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park budget is a 2.7 percent increase from the current budget. It increases the tax levy by 2.92 percent.

Sewanhaka’s budget is a 2.9 percent increase from the current budget, and increases the tax levy by 1.09 percent.

Two uncontested New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education trustees were also re-elected on Tuesday, David Del Santo and Jennifer DeRocchis.

Del Santo also serves as the Sewanhaka school board president.

Sewanhaka’s school board is made up of two representatives from each of the five elementary districts that feed into the high schools.

Del Santo has served on the high school board for 11 years, and in a previous interview said he likes being active in the district from which both of his daughters graduated.

“It’s one of those things, if you sit on the sidelines and complain and don’t do anything then you don’t have a right to really complain because you don’t have a solution,” DelSanto said.

DeRocchis, a Lakeville Estates resident, has a daughter at the Manor Oaks School and a son at New Hyde Park Memorial High School.

She said in a previous interview she thinks it is important for parents with children in the district to serve on the board.

“The reason I ran initially was that I simply felt the need to be more involved in my community,” DeRocchis said. “Particularly looking out for our children with regards to health and safety as well as maintaining class sizes and addressing concerns about the common core initiative. “
