New Jersey man killed in NHP

A New Jersey man was struck and killed by a car while crossing Marcus Avenue to get directions in New Hyde Park last Wednesday night, Nassau County Police report.

Detectives said Thomas M. Thomas, 71 of Dumont, N.J. was struck by a 47-year-old man driving a 2010 Mercedes Benz eastbound on Marcus Avenue on June 18 at 10:30 p.m.

Police said Thomas had exited his vehicle to get directions and was returning to his vehicle crossing Marcus Avenue north to south when he was hit.

He suffered serious head injuries and was transported to North Shore University Hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 11:01 p.m..  

Police said the vehicle had a safety brake check on scene and was released to the driver. Police said there is no criminality involved in the accident.
