The Bristal at North Hills hosted a 100th birthday celebration last weekend for resident Marie DeVito.
DeVito was born in Brooklyn in 1917 and later moved to Glendale with her late husband, Vincent, and her two daughters, Marion Endrizzi and Camille Corbett. She has lived at The Bristal at North Hills for 11 years, Endrizzi said.
Endrizzi and her husband, John, of Plandome Heights and Corbett and her husband, Tom, of Ridgewood, New Jersey, celebrated alongside her grandchildren Suzanne Endrizzi of New York City, Julia Corbett and Douglas Corbett, Long Island elected officials and DeVito’s friends on Saturday before her birthday Sunday.
“Our family has been blessed to have Mom in our lives for all these years to provide her love and guidance to all of us,” Endrizzi said. “We have shared many happy times over the years.”
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Anna Kaplan honored DeVito along with state Sen. Elaine Phillips, state Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso and Village of North Hills Trustees Phyllis Lentini and Dennis Sgambati.
“Marie is a remarkable woman, and I am grateful to have been able to spend time with her during the party,” Phillips said.
U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi sent a proclamation honoring the centenarian in his absence. Cardinal Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York also sent his blessings and a congratulatory letter for DeVito.
