LIE closed after man struck by car

One man was transported by helicopter to Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow and two others were injured Thursday after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling on the Long Island Expressway between exits 39 and 40 near East Hills, police said.

Old Westbury Police responded to the accident and said the three victims were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident temporarily closed all lanes of the LIE in both directions except for the westbound HOV lane, Nassau County Police said.

The pedestrian was struck after leaving his overturned vehicle and attempting to cross the expressway, police said. 

An Old Westbury officer said police do not know how the vehicle became overturned and declined to disclose a description of the vehicle.

The officer said the two other victims were transported to area hospitals. He declined to disclose a description of the other victims.
