Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, but not Xmas

Thanks for noting the abundance of Christmas decorations in Great Neck in your headline for a letter written by one of your readers.

However, the reader misses the thought of what the holiday is.

Please note that the holiday is Christmas, not Xmas, as referred to several times in the letter.

Those who celebrate Christmas do not refer to Hanukkah as Xkah and would appreciate the same courtesy extended in return.

So here on in, let’s make it Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and stop the improper shorthand.

I would hope that all our towns and villages shout the messages of Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and reflect on the good wishes and peace of the season. And a very Happy New Year to all.
