The Stutzmann & Son Funeral Home/ Tudor Advisory Group Giants captured the Merillon Athletic Association Minors Division title by beating the Parker Jewish Institute Rays, 4-1 this past weekend.
On a picture perfect day for baseball, the many fans were treated to a well-played game by both sides.Â
But it was the Giants who got out to a fast start and never let the rays back in it.Â
In the second inning, the Giants started off the scoring with a double by Kenny Hirschfeld followed by a based-loaded walk by Stephen Lopez and a two-out clutch frozen rope by Joe Montoni, which gave the mighty Giants a 3-0 lead. Â
Ryan Wasserman cruised along through the super Rays lineup with 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball while only allowing two walks and striking out 12. Â
The Giants scored again in the top half of the sixth with another RBI by Montoni, his third of the game.Â
Anthony Ponzo Jr. contributed by going 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Â
Stephen Lopez was also 1-for-1 with a walk and one RBI. Garrett Roth was 1-for-1 with a walk and one run scored. Â
Kudos to the Rays on a great game and season and thanks to all the parents who allowed their boys to play the great game of baseball this season.
