While political candidates throughout Long Island last Tuesday learned whether they would take office in January, three Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department companies and an ambulance unit responded to a house fire in Great Neck.
Fire companies 3, 4 and 5 and an ambulance unit were dispatched at 6:16 p.m. to 46-24 Arcadia Lane, where officials said a fire first broke out in the basement before expanding throughout the rest of the residence.
The fire was controlled in 40 minutes, officials said. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.Â
Officials said Company 4 was the first to arrive on the scene and extinguish most of the fire, which extended out of the basement by way of a pipe chase to the house’s first and second floors. Â
Company 3 extinguished the fire’s extension to the upper two floors, while crews from Company 4 and Company 2 vented and searched the floors, which were empty with the exception of a dog that ran out of the house unharmed, Manhasset-Lakeville officials said.Â
Manhasset-Lakeville officials were aided in putting out the fire by a firefighter assistance and search team from the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company and an ambulance provided by the Port Washington Fire Department for emergency medical services. Â
The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office is currently investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.
