Bryant to host group exhibit ‘The Alchemists’

The Gallery at The Bryant Library will present “The Alchemists,” a group exhibit on view from Jan. 4 through Feb. 28.

Alchemy is a mysterious and inexplicable transmuting of one substance to another. It is also a process that changes or transforms something in an inscrutable way. In this exhibit, all five artists change or transform their materials into something else entirely, with new meaning.

Karine Falleni, raised on Long Island, received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has participated in residencies in Spain and New York City to further her practice. Her work documents movement  and how to express motion through line- on paper walls and most recently as installations with automotive tape.

Thea Lanzisero received her BFA and MFA in Sculpture.  She has shown her work in galleries, art-parks, public and permanent venues and has commissioned work in private collections.

“I am interested in connecting the magic of the natural world with everyday life, politics and mass media,” Lanzisero said.

Barbara Miller received her BA in Fine Art and did Graduate Studies at LIU CW Post. She has exhibited widely on Long Island. Her work explores the transformation of everyday materials such as insulation and electrical wire into works of art with paint, wax and metal.

Constance Wain is an award-winning artist whose work has been described as versatile and innovative. In this exhibit she has combined rusted metal and re-purposed wooden forms to create new ways to express the human condition. Wain has been an exhibiting member of the B.J. Spoke Gallery in Huntington for more than 30 years, often serving as president.

She received a Humanistic approach to Art Education at Queens College and her MFA from LIU CW Post.

Ellen Hallie Schiff is a Long Island process painter with roots in the New York School of Abstract Expressionism. Her work is visceral, bold and often dramatic. Her “take no prisoners” approach to her painting has often left her dumb-founded as to what exactly just took place.

In this exhibit she is showing recent works that include experiments with tempered metal and charred wood. She has found experimenting with materials an exciting way to communicate that which cannot be spoken.  Schiff has been mentored by Stan Brodsky, Christian White and Steve Lampasona.
