A South Floral Park man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years for possessing over 200 grams of cocaine and a gun, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
Hakim Jackson, 44, was convicted earlier this year of multiple felonies for possessing over 285 grams of cocaine.
“This case highlights the dangerous relationship between illicit drugs and illegal firearms in our community,” said District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “Today’s sentence of 15 years in prison sends a strong message that our office will work hand-in-hand with our law enforcement partners to find and aggressively prosecute individuals who possess illegal firearms and narcotics in Nassau County.”
NYPD officers observed a hand-to-hand cash exchange between two individuals in Queens in 2019 while conducting a long-term investigation into narcotics trafficking, Donnelly said.
One of the individuals involved, a woman, then drove to Jackson’s home in South Floral Park, who gave her a plastic shopping bag in the driveway before she returned to Queens to give it to the first individual, Donnelly said.
Police determined the shopping bag had over 100 grams of cocaine.
After applying for a search warrant into Jackson’s home, police said they found approximately 285 grams of cocaine in a safe, drug paraphernalia and three guns.
Jackson was convicted of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree before Judge Terence Murphy.
