Remo’s Italian Deli in New Hyde Park has closed down after over 40 years

The business, located at 231 Jericho Turnpike, first opened in 1980 and was sold to new owners, according to News12 Long Island.

Owner Remo Scarapicchia told the outlet he was looking forward to a much-needed vacation. Scarapicchia, who is popular in the community, was the grand marshal for New Hyde Park’s first-ever Columbus Day parade last year.

Scarapicchia’s daughter, Jessica, said in a Facebook post the closing was bittersweet as the location was being cleaned out for the new owners.

“It was truly the place where ‘Everyone Knew Your Name.’ The place where you’d get your morning coffee and the best bacon, egg and cheese in town,” she said in the post. “The place you could get the thinnest cold cuts & chicken cutlets. The place where Mena’s Vodka Sauce was born. The place that made the world’s (yes, the world’s) best garlic knots. “

It was unclear whether the new owners of the property would keep the Remo’s Italian Deli name.
