A New Hyde Park man was killed Friday night in a single-car crash on the Wantagh State Parkway in Hempstead, according to the New York State Police.
Shortly before 9 p.m., Gaetano DeCrescenzo was driving southbound near Exit 4 before his Ford Mustang left the roadway and went onto the right shoulder, police said.
The 68-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after the car continued into the woods and struck a light pole and several trees.
DeCrescenzo was born in Napoli, Italy, on June 17, 1954, according to the Weigand Brothers Funeral Home. He came to New York in 1971 with his family before settling.
DeCrescenzo is survived by his two sons, Michael and Gaetano Jr., daughter Monique, and life partner Fran.
“Gaetano took his last breath on this earth just minutes after spending time with his loved ones and the day after a joyous Thanksgiving filled with friends and family,” his obituary reads. “His physical body may have left us, but his spirit remains with his loved ones who survive him. May God rest his soul.”
Services for DeCrescenzo were held Tuesday at Weigand Brothers in Williston Park, with a Mass on Wednesday at Notre Dame Parish before his final resting place at the Cemetary of the Holy Rood in Westbury.
