A New Hyde Park man and a homeless woman were charged early Friday morning with stealing a car in Hempstead after being stopped at a traffic stop, police said.
Michael Daddario, 34, of New Hyde Park and Anna Montoya, 46, who was homeless, were found in possession of a stolen 2018 Nissan Rogue during a vehicle and traffic stop near the intersection of Fulton and Terrace Avenues in Hempstead.
A woman alerted police her car was missing Friday, March 31 at 2:25 a.m. and Hempstead police officers later observed the vehicle on the road.
While investigating, police said they determined Daddario was driving the stolen car. Daddario was in possession of a switchblade knife and Montoya was in possession of what was believed to be a crack pipe, police said.
Daddario was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Montoya was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, bail jumping in the second degree and false personation.
