A New Hyde Park man was charged Tuesday night with attempted murder after a domestic dispute with a 73-year-old woman.
Glen Davis, 75, allegedly pushed the victim down the stairs before striking her with a candle holder and attempting to strangle her, police said. The victim was able to fight off Davis and notify the police, officials said.
Officers initially responded to a call at the residence Tuesday night at 8:20 p.m. regarding a disturbance, where they located the victim lying on the floor in substantial pain.
Davis and the victim were taken to a nearby hospital to treat their injuries.
Davis was charged with attempted murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and will be arraigned when medically practical.
