Nearly 100 firefighters respond to Searingtown fire as eight evacuate

Approximately 100 firefighters responded to a Searingtown home early Tuesday morning to extinguish a fire that started from an air conditioning unit on the second floor, Nassau County Police said.

First responders were dispatched to 39 Piper Drive after the homeowner reported a fire coming from the unit installed on the second floor of the house at 12:39 a.m.

Eight residents evacuated safely from the house with no injuries while the Albertson Fire Department extinguished the fire with help from other local departments, police said. Departments that either reported to the scene or remained on standby in Albertson were from Roslyn, Mineola, Garden City, Floral Park and Manhasset-Lakeville, among others.

The cause of the fire is electrical and not deemed suspicious, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
