The 26th annual New Hyde Park Street Fair was held in a different month this year and a different day, but the food, festivities and fun were still the same.
The village, in conjunction with Craft-A-Fair Long Island, held the event on Jericho from New Hyde Park Road to Lakeville Road.
The village last week opted to push it back to the rain date on Sunday due to inclement weather the day before, but the village and surrounding community still came out and showed immense support, Mayor Christopher Devane said.
“We had an amazing turnout,” Devane said. “The food was great, the music was great and I think everybody had an amazing time.”
Attendees were treated to a number of activities and options, ranging from offerings at Ginos’s or a buffet at Park Place that never had a shortage of hungry patrons.
With the fair held in October instead of September due to the initial date overlapping with Rosh Hashanah, Devane joked that there was less ice cream and lemonade to go around and more sausage and peppers. Devane also said he heard great feedback from the live music entertainment for the evening, FiveStone.
The drills and demonstrations Sunday included students from John Chung Tae Kwon Do Karate, Kombative Edge Martial Arts and an excavation drill courtesy of the New Hyde Park Fire Department.
First responders practiced for a growing crowd creating different entryways through an SUV, using various tools such as the jaws of life and Halligan bars, among other things.
Next year’s fair will be returning to its usual date on Sept. 21, 2024, Devane said.
Future village events this month include the 3rd Annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28. The parade will begin assembling at 9:30 a.m. in the Lakeville parking lot before beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will end at village hall where additional activities will be held.
In November, the village will also be celebrating Diwali on Nov. 9 and Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
