A Queens man who was involved in an automobile accident in North Hills early Friday morning had a 2-year-old child in his car and was intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police said in a statement that Ron Michael Delph of Fresh Meadows was in an auto accident while traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 34.
Once officers arrived at the scene, Delph was found standing outside the vehicle and his passenger, a 2-year-old girl, was sitting in the rear passenger seat with “proper restraints,” the department said.
Delph was taken into custody without incident and the child was released to a family member, with no injuries reported at the scene.
Delph is charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned June 4 in Mineola, where he was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County. Delph is next scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
