The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is looking to fill two long-vacant retail spaces at the Manhasset Long Island Rail Road station.

TJ Costello, co-president of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, said the MTA contacted the group with a generic request for proposals to rent out two spaces that were formerly filled by a flower shop.
“As a courtesy to our members, we sent out this RFP hoping we could get somebody, Costello said. “So far gotten a few glimmers of interest, some of the local merchants here thinking about a satellite office or showroom.”
The proposals were due by 3 p.m. Monday, but according to the request, late proposals will be considered at the discretion of MTA officials.

Unit 4, formerly occupied by Rosedale Florist, is approximately 188 square feet and sits on the north side of the station building. According to the request, the space must be open from at least 6 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
Repairs must be done by the new tenant, including painting the interior, repairing ceiling leaks and installing a centrally monitored fire alarm system. No food may be served or prepared from the space, and no CDs or DVDs can be sold.
The lease is five years, and the estimated compensation for the first year is $5,000.
Unit 5, significantly smaller at 73 square feet, is on the northeast corner of the station building and can be used as a retail space or a storage unit for the larger space.
The MTA estimates the average weekday ridership at the Manhasset station is 6,315.
