The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday, May 23 at Company #2 in Manhasset to discuss a proposed station for the department’s ambulance unit.

If built, the building would move the unit from its current location at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company #3 in Great Neck to Cumberland Avenue, the department said in a statement on Facebook.

The station would feature three bays for ambulances and a first-response vehicle. Responding to over 1,200 calls annually, a new home would allow for faster response times and more staffing, the department said.

The fire department is part of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire and Water District, which owns the proposed land and takes in all of Manhasset except for Plandome, half of Great Neck and some of northern New Hyde Park.

The district serves approximately 45,000 customers within a service area of 10.2 square miles, according to its website.

A state grant of $1 million was secured by state Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti (D-Port Washington) in 2022 and goes toward the $3 million that has already been allotted for the project.

District officials project the total cost of the new unit to be approximately $10 million.

“A dedicated ambulance unit will allow our first responders to have the space and resources they need to do the critically important service they provide to the community here in Nassau County,” Sillitti said in a statement at the time of the announcement.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at Company #2 at 2 Community Drive East, Manhasset.
