North Hempstead residents can now skip the line at the post office when applying for passports.

The town announced last week that the clerk’s office will issue and renew federal passports for residents and nonresidents.

“It’s very exciting that we are finally able to offer our residents the convenience of getting their passport processed right at the town clerk’s office,” town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “We are striving to make the process of applying or renewing a passport as painless as possible.”

Applicants must bring two forms of government-issued identification, a 2-by-2 photo and fill out the application, which can be found online or picked up at the office.

Passport photos can also be taken in the clerk’s office for $10, according to a town news release.

Applicants must pay an $25 execution fee, as well as an application fee, which varies depending on passport types. Application fees start at $30 for passport cards and reach $140 for a passport card and a passport book.

The execution fee can be paid with cash or credit card and the application fee must be paid by check.

“The clerk’s office will be a one-stop shop for applying and renewing passports where residents can make an appointment to take the photo and process the passport all at once,” Town Clerk Wayne Wink said.

The town clerk’s office is located at Town Hall at 200 Plandome Road in Manhasset.
