Thomaston trustees agreed Thursday to award a $226,61 bid to an East Norwich-based company for improving road drainage and sidewalks.
Trustees unanimously approved awarding the bid to United Paving Corp., a company specializing in paving, asphalt and drainage that came in with the low.
Mayor Steven Weinberg said the project garnered the most bids the village has seen in recent history. Six companies submitted bids, ranging from United Paving Corp.’s lowest bid to $568,385′.
“This is the first time in a long time that we’ve had more than one or two bidders actually bid on the projects,” Weinberg said. “We’ve had a lot of people pick up the packages but typically we’ve got one or two, maybe three, and I’m going back decades now. So this is the first time in an awfully long time that we’ve had six bidders.”
Weinberg said having six bidders is “wonderful for the village” and hopefully will lead to the best value.
United Paving Corp. has also done work locally in Great Neck Plaza, Weinberg said. When he inquired about the quality of their work, he said he received no complaints.
Weinberg described the improvements as a “small drainage project” that will not be at the same scale as last year’s improvements.
There is no estimated start date for the project.
Trustees also approved the sale of a 2019 Ford F-250 pickup truck for $45,000 to a village employee after two unsuccessful auctions.
The truck, whose value the village estimated $38,677 to $42,737 excluding the plow, had been listed in two auctions earlier this year yet only received bids lower than its estimated value.
After the unsuccessful auctions, the village parked the truck in front of the village hall with a for-sale sign to solicit buyers. After a week and a half, the village received two offers, including the one it accepted.
The Thomaston Board of Trustees will convene again on Aug. 12.
