Several students from Saddle Rock School are among the top regional performers in the Stock Market Game, an online competition that teaches students the fundamentals of investing using virtual money. Saddle Rock teams won first and second place in the Spring Competitive Game, and individual students finished first and fourth place in the Year-Long Competitive Game.
For the Spring Competitive Game, which runs from January through April, Saddle Rock participants surpassed 122 other teams to claim the top two spots in the Long Island Elementary Division. Fourth graders Arun Bhattacharyya and Audrey Liu placed first among all elementary teams in the region, as well as third among all grade levels on Long Island (1,586 teams), and 14th among all grade levels in New York State (5,021 teams). They made more than $27,000 on their initial investment of $100,000 over twelve weeks. Fifth graders Justin Rodriguez and Robert Forster placed second among elementary teams in the region, fifth on Long Island, and 29th in New York State by making almost $17,000 on their initial investment.
Saddle Rock students also performed exceptionally well in the Year-Long Competitive Game, which starts in September and ends in April. Robert Forster won first place overall for the region (63 teams), third for Long Island (907 teams), and seventh in New York State (2,845 teams) after making almost $67,000 on his initial investment. Additionally, fourth grader Judah Moghadam placed fourth overall in the region and made over $40,500 on the initial investment.
The Stock Market Game, a program of the SIFMA Foundation, is a nationwide online competition utilized by educators to demonstrate the fundamentals of economics and investing. Students are provided virtual money that they invest in a simulated stock market and their virtual portfolios rise and fall based on how those stocks perform in the actual market.
Saddle Rock offers the Stock Market Game through a weekly before-school enrichment program led by teacher Evan Chen and school psychologist Dr. Anthony Iacovelli.
