Frozen pipes that burst caused the ceiling of a Great Neck Plaza business to collapse and forced Airbar Blow Dry Bar to close its doors indefinitely, according to its owner.

The salon at 5 North Station Plaza in Great Neck Plaza suffered extensive damage after its ceiling collapsed on Christmas as a result of a break in the water line from frozen pipes, owner Jessica Ramos told Blank Slate Media. Though Ramos said she was informed that the water line was fixed Monday, the extensive damage to the shop will not allow her to conduct any business at the site for the foreseeable future.

Ramos did say that the business, which does blowouts, haircuts, extensions, makeup and more, is temporarily adapting to in-home services until the physical store can reopen for customers. Interested customers can call the company’s regular phone number, 516-321-9006, to set up an appointment, she said.

“We’re extremely sorry for what has happened,” Ramos said. “Unfortunately, it is out of our control, but follow us on social media to hear for more updates.”

Jay Corn, vice president of the Great Neck Business Improvement District, said buildings converting from oil boilers in the basement to HVAC units on the roof take away internal heat from rising in structures to keep pipes warm. The freezing temperatures mixed with a lack of heat and insulation, he said, has resulted in some serious burst pipes in the peninsula.
