The South High School chamber music trio of Hugh Choi, Sarah Sun, and Selena Lu are among a select group of musicians invited to take the stage at Alice Tully Hall for the 40th annual Young Musicians Concert of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
This is the second consecutive year that Hugh (flute), Sarah (alto saxophone), and Selena (piano) have been selected to perform in this prestigious concert. They performed Trio No. 1 for Flute, Alto Saxophone and Piano, Mvt. 1 Andante/Moderato, by Russell Peterson. South High music faculty members Mark Boschen, Dr. Janine Robinson, and Michael Schwartz proudly attended the concert in Alice Tully Hall on May 9.
In addition to performing at Lincoln Center, the ensemble also received a one-hour, in-person coaching session with a distinguished artist from the Chamber Music Society prior to the Young Musicians Concert.
Ensembles featured in the Young Musicians Concert at Alice Tully Hall are winners of regional competitions conducted in New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island. Four chamber music ensembles from the Great Neck Public Schools competed in the 2024 Long Island Regional High School Young Musicians Concert, which was hosted at South High School on March 21.
The Young Musicians Program was created in 1998 and South High has participated nearly every year since its inception. The South High chamber music program is coordinated by Mr. Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher, and Dr. Robinson, vocal teacher.
