The Village of Great Neck Plaza approved its annual contract with the Gold Coast Art Center Wednesday night to continue partnerships with the organization for art performances and displays in the village.

The Gold Coast Art Center, located at 113 Middle Neck Road, is a not-for-profit, multi-arts center that has provided art education, exhibits, performances and outreach for more than 25 years.

The $2,500 annual contract was approved for the mayor to sign and engage the village in at its Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday night. Mayor Ted Rosen said the 2024-2025 contract is similar to ones in prior years.

The contract permits the village to request artistic, musical, theatrical or other performances from the art center. These performances will be established at mutually agreed-upon dates and locations by the art center and village and also be free for residents.

Historical examples of such contracted performances between the Gold Coast Art Center and the Village of Great Neck Plaza include the Great Neck Street Fair, the Village Promenades and the Village Summer Concerts.

The Gold Coast Art Center participated in the Village’s recent Lunar New Year celebration hosted in partnership with the Great Neck Chinese Association.

Deputy Mayor Pamel Marksheid praised the event’s success, saying it was a beautiful display of decorations and performances that drew a large crowd of residents to celebrate the holiday.

“We’re very happy to work with the Great Neck Chinese Association who sponsored this program and we look forward to doing similar programs, whether on Lunar New Year or other occasions, with them in the future,” Rosen said.

The mayor and the board thanked the individuals who contributed to the event, including Great Neck Chinese Association Co-Presidents Dorothy Feng and Steve Chen, Yan Ma and Qian Xue, as well as the Village of Great Neck Plaza Resident Group members Joyce Miller, Nancy Cutrone, Leslie Scheinfeld, Rachelle Epstein, Nina Gordon and Marksheid.

The Village of Great Neck Plaza Board of Trustees will convene again at its next meeting on Feb. 21 where they plan to continue discussing the sidewalk replacement proposal for in front of the post office.
