The Village of Great Neck Plaza is proposing an increase in various parking fines, which was discussed at its Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday evening.
Approximately 15 parking fines are being considered by the village to increase, including expired parking meters, parking in a crosswalk, parking in a fire lane and overtime street parking. About 34% of the village’s parking fines are being proposed for the increase.
Mayor Ted Rosen said the village used other local municipalities as guides to determine the extent to which the village will increase the parking fines.
Board members discussed the degree to which the parking fines should increase, with some suggesting they be raised more than the board was proposing. Rosen said that he preferred a “more conservative increase” in the fines, which range from a proposed $5 to $50.
Under the proposal. overtime street parking fines would increase from $30 to $35, expired parking meter fines from $20 to $35 and fines for parking in the crosswalk from $75-$125.
The board is proposing a resolution to vote on the matter at the village’s next meeting at 7 p.m. on July 19.
During the board’s Wednesday meeting, members also approved two conditional use permits for local businesses Miu Miu’s Eyelash Extension, which had a change in ownership, and the new incoming business Bravo Pizza.
Bravo Pizza is a New York-based pizza chain. It is being proposed to open at 25 Cutter Mill Rd.
The owner said he is aiming to have the pizza parlor open in Great Neck Plaza in about seven to eight months.
