A Great Neck man was one of two people arrested for allegedly robbing a 7-Eleven store in Floral Park on Saturday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Floral Park police officers responded to a 911 call at the 7-Eleven on 287 Jericho Turnpike on Saturday, according to news release. A 44-year-old male employee, whose name was not disclosed, told officials that an unknown man entered the store and went behind the counter, according to the release.
The man then displayed a knife to the employee, resulting in a struggle before the employee was able to subdue the man, officials said. The employee suffered lacerations to his left shoulder and hip as well as a puncture to his right shoulder, according to officials. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said.
As the struggle was going on, according to police, a woman placed merchandise under her clothing, exited the store without paying and remained in close proximity of the building.
Officials identified the two people as James Kovatch, 34, from 8 W. Mill Drive in Great Neck, and Amanda Mathews, 40, of Brooklyn.
Kovatch and Mathews were arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and two counts each of second-degree robbery, officials said. Kovatch was additionally charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, according to officials.
The two were reportedly arraigned on Sunday, but efforts to reach a law enforcement representative for an update on the arraignment were unavailing. Efforts to reach a representative from the 7-Eleven for comment were also unavailing.
