Due to ongoing construction work at the Parkville branch of the Great Neck Library system, the library election on Oct. 30 had one less polling place. On Tuesday night at the library board of trustees meeting, the board unanimously voted on approving an alternative polling location at the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department firehouse on 79 Stewart Ave.
“It’s my sense that people would like to see the firehouse and so I’m going to make the motion that way,” said Board President Rory Lancman.
The other two polling sites will be the Main Library on 159 Bayview Ave. and Great Neck Plaza Village Hall at 2 Gussack Plaza. The Main Library is for residents living in the zip codes 11023, 11024 and 11363, while Village Hall is for residents in the zip code 11021. Residents from zip codes 11020, 11030, 11040 and 11362 will go to the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department firehouse.
A meet-the-candidates night will take place on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the main library community room, hosted by the League of Women Voters.
For the expiring seat of Scott Sontag are four independent candidates including Sontag, Sara Rivka Khodadadian, Chayim Mahgerefteh and Aliza Reicher.
Independent candidate Daniel Pitt Stoller is vying for the expiring seat of Marietta DiCamillo of the nominating committee and independent candidate Joanna Stolove is after the seat of Marianna Wohlgemuth of the nominating committee.
To vote in the election, residents must be 18 or older, a resident of the Great Neck School District and either a valid library card holder or registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections by Oct. 2.
