Arthur Alayev has his sights set on providing specialized eye care in Williston Park.

Alayev is the business owner of Williston Optical, which opened on Hillside Avenue last month.

The store provides eyewear, such as sunglasses and prescription glasses. Alayev noticed a lack of optical stores in the area, which was one of the main reasons why he opened his business in Williston Park.

Alayev has been involved in local businesses in Williston Park since childhood. His father owns Rudy’s Studio One Barbershop — also on Hillside Avenue.

Alayev said his father would bring him to his shop and he’d help sweep the floors and clean the mirrors. Eventually, when he got older, he started cutting hair, but his father encouraged him to pursue a degree.

“For college, I went to Interborough in the city and they had an optical dispensing program,” Alayev said.

After the two-year program, Alayev worked at an optical store in the Bronx.

However, the store burned down, so his father, who had been working in Williston Park for over 30 years, asked him to return to the community.

After helping his father in Williston Park and getting familiar with the neighbors and the community, Alayev said, he wanted to open his own business down the road.

“I wanted to keep this business in the neighborhood,” Alayev said. “I always thought about opening my own optical store for some time and this opportunity came up a few months ago and I jumped on it.”

With the store now opened, Alayev said his mission is to provide services to help people with their vision in the area.

“Eventually, we would want to expand where we would have a doctor in the office and be able to help patients with their sight, with any type of ocular disease, any type of eye problems for everybody,” Aliyev said.

Alayev’s long-term goal for Williston Optical is to transform the business into an “all-around eye care center” from medical services to fashion.
