A Northwell Health employee was fatally shot in a parking garage outside of the health care facility’s New Hyde Park location on Thursday.
Northwell Health officials confirmed the shooting in a statement and said the victim, whose name was not disclosed, was shot “late [Thursday] afternoon… in the publicly accessible parking garage” at 1999 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park.
Officials said several team members attempted to treat the victim at the scene of the incident before they were transported to a nearby hospital.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to officials. Northwell representatives said the healthcare system “mourns the heartbreaking loss of our colleague and team member” and is providing counseling services for employees who seek it.
Officials deferred further questions to the Nassau County Police Department, who is actively investigating the incident, but efforts to reach police for further comment on the matter were unavailing.
According to multiple reports, police confirmed that the victim was a 33-year-old woman who sustained “multiple” gunshot wounds.
