North Shore firefighters extinguish garage fire in North Hills Thursday afternoon

First responders across the North Shore responded to a North Hills garage fire Thursday afternoon, getting the scene under control in approximately two hours.

Police officers responded to 41 Chestnut Hill for the report of a fire before members of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department who were leaving a previous call arrived on the scene. \

Upon arriving, a mutual call was made and the New Hyde Park and Williston Park Fire Departments arrived and provided FAST teams, otherwise known as rapid intervention teams, which are solely focused on search and rescue operations.

Numerous handlines were stretched into the garage and the first responders were able to contain the fire to the garage, the department said.

All occupants in the building at the time of the fire were removed with the help of police officers and firefighters. No injuries were reported, according to police.

Several firefighter units remained on the scene until approximately 6:30 p.m. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
