Manorhaven resident Diana Alcivar Torres was arrested Wednesday evening for stabbing a male victim in the leg, according to Nassau County Police.
Alcivar Torres, 27, was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Alcivar Torres was verbally arguing with the 28-year-old victim, at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. The argument was in front of their 11-month-old child.
Police said in a press release that Alcivar Torres “escalated the argument” when she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the male victim in the right leg. The victim then attempted to call 911 and Alcivar Torres took the phone from him.
The victim transported himself to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained. Hospital staff contacted the Nassau County Police Department about the victim who then investigated the incident, police officials said. They could not provide which hospital the victim was treated at.
After detectives investigated the incident, Alcivar Torres was found at her home on Dunwood Road and placed into custody. Their child is now in the custody of a family member.
Alcivar Torres was arraigned for her domestic violence case in the First District Court at 99 Main St. in Hempstead on Thursday. A temporary order of protection was issued and she was released on one or more non-monetary conditions. Her next court appearance is April 6.
